SAFE BLUEPRINT: INNOVATING PATIENT CARE
Penn Medicine’s Quality & Patient Safety initiative is a system-wide effort to reduce mortality and hospital readmissions. It achieves this through innovations in care delivery that result in better outcomes, safer medical practices, fewer errors and better patient care. Charley developed a campaign to position Penn Medicine as an industry leader, increase participation in the program throughout the organization and build on the equity of the ongoing Your Life is Worth Penn Medicine campaign.

Safe, quality care begins with internal culture.
Safe™ Blueprint was created to speak to both medical and patient audiences and to give the program a name that was accessible and easy to embrace among the clinical staff. Safe™ Blueprint centered on the attention to detail Penn Medicine pays every day to improve care and avoid errors. These achievements are celebrated at every level. The campaign kicked off with a hospital domination, employee direct-mail and an internal website clinical teams could use to communicate with one another to share challenges and success stories.
To gain engagement from every level, Charley focused the internal campaign on safety through quality care as the common thread. Quality is about giving patients the best they can hope for, even when they don't know what to hope for, because quality is a measure of how Penn values their lives. From being informed to being meticulous, Safe™ Blueprint put the value of saving lives at the forefront of care and created a rallying call for everyone from doctors and nurses to administrators and executives.
